These pictures were taken from the patio on a house in the other side of the neighborhood. It was nice to see downtown.

4th of july in city terrace, ca

July 4, 2025

One of the best things about City Terrace is the 4th of July celebrations. No matter where you are in the neighborhood, you are almost guarantee to have a great view of the fireworks show.

This year wasn't the exception. As it got later in the day we decided to head out and enjoy the show. What was different this year was I decided to take some pictures.

I haven't done much of night photography in my career, and you can see that if you look at my portfolio. Perhaps the only time when I did a proper night time photoshoot was back in 2012 when I was hanging out with the guys from the Light Chasers Meet Up group. Maybe if I find those pictures, I'll post them here.

Anyways, this year was also special because on July 3rd I got in the mail two new lenses and I got to use them right away. One of them is an ultrawide angle lens, and the other is the iconic "Nifty Fifty" Canon lens.

Let's play a game. Without looking at the pictures' information, can you spot which pictures were taken with these lenses? Remember some were taken my with standard 18 - 55 mm and 75 - 300 mm lenses.

It started when we visited the Weird Wave Cafe on Soto and Cesar Chavez for a Democracy Haiku event. I liked that place and their wall of old records. You should pay them a visit.

Walking back to the car I saw this mural and just caught my attention. Decided to take a few pictures of it.

Afterwards we decided to head back home. Because we are in City Terrace, you can't really be too far away from the camera. Light is different here.

memorial weekend day 2

May 25, 2025

These pictures were taken during a short walk we took Sunday morning. We were surprised to discover we could actually see the 6th Street bridge. Also noticed a new building being built. I wonder what would people from 100 years ago think of this city if they got to see it today.

Later on our walk we ran into a little friend taking a nap on top of a car. I hope he was as happy to see us as we were to see him.

We had tickets for a concert in Redondo Beach that afternoon, Heidi's quire would be performing. Our Memorial Day adventures ended up there. We took Monday to rest and spend time with each other. Not a bad decision.

The day actually started with the visit of 3 Little Free Libraries in the Alhambra area. They were really well made and nicely decorated. Maybe I should had taken a picture or two. Anyways, after that we decided to head back home.

By that I mean we stopped at Earthy Corazon to get a scented candle (Yes. I like those. So?). Then went to La Terraza Cafe, both on City Terrace Dr.

Since the week had been a long one, we decided to stay home.

Even when this is not the first entry in The Light and Colors of City Terrace collection, this is the first set of pictures taken after we came up with the idea of creating a designated space for the City Terrace neighborhood.

The purpose of all of this is to celebrate how beautiful and underrated some of the areas east of Downtown LA can be.

On the way to run some chores, saw this had to go back to get the camera. I wasn't disappointed.

We didn't have any adventures planned for this Saturday. That wasn't a problem. I decided to take the camera and hang around the garden. This is the result.

On this day we decided to take a walk before it started raining. You can see the dramatic clouds in the background of some pictures. I love how some rays of sunshine still made it through the clouds.

Hope you guys enjoy watching these pictures as much as I enjoyed taking them.

On this day we decided to go for a short walk before the rain started again. We were able to find a couple of stunning views of the San Gabriel mountains and Downtown Los Angeles in the distance. Over all, not a bad hike.
